Precision Irrigation: Water Exactly as Needed — Not a Drop More

Water is becoming agriculture's most valuable — and scarcest — resource. The FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method in the Agrivate app calculates daily water loss so you irrigate only what is truly needed.

Today water is becoming agriculture's most valuable — and scarcest — resource. Traditional “by-eye” watering or fixed weekly schedules often lead either to wasted water (and money) or to plant stress.

At Agrivate we believe the answer lies in science, but applying it must stay simple. That is why we integrated the world's leading algorithm into our app: the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method.

What is the Penman-Monteith method and why does it matter?

Think of your crop like a bank account. The water that falls (rain or irrigation) is the “deposit”. The water lost from the soil and leaves to sun and wind is the “withdrawal”. That loss is called evapotranspiration (ET).

The FAO-56 algorithm is the most accurate “accountant” of this process. Instead of guessing, it calculates every day how much water your field lost, using 4 key factors from your weather station:

How Agrivate SmartAg simplifies the process

You don't need to be a mathematician to use this technology. The app does all the work for you:

1. Automatic calculations

Your station sends the data and the app calculates ETo (reference evapotranspiration). Then, using the Crop Coefficient (Kc) — which changes depending on whether the plant is at the start or at full growth — it gives you the exact amount of water your crop needs.

2. Accounting for rainfall

If 10 mm of rain fell overnight, the app knows it. It automatically deducts that from the irrigation need, so you don't water an already wet field.

3. Real soil data

By combining the algorithm with soil moisture sensors, you see not only what you “should” irrigate, but what is actually happening at the roots.

The benefits in the grower's pocket

Precision irrigation is not a luxury — it is a profitability tool:

The conclusion is simple: watering “however much it takes” belongs to the past. With Agrivate SmartAg, you water exactly what is needed.
